According to the annual traffic results published by VINCI Airports, London – Gatwick (LGW) handled 32.8 million passengers in 2022, which represents a 71% recovery compared to pre-pandemic levels. In 2021, 6.3 million passengers were mobilized at the London airport, this due to health restrictions due to COVID-19.
The long-haul segment is the airport’s biggest recovery segment, with Gatwick (LGW) now offering forty-two global routes, which is 68% of the number flown prior to the pandemic crisis.
“Today’s figures are extremely positive and clearly show London Gatwick’s continued strong recovery. We still have a long way to go, but we look forward to welcoming more passengers this year, including those flying to our growing choice of long-haul destinations,” said Jonathan Pollard, Commercial Director at London Gatwick Airport.
This year the intercontinental network will be boosted with new Air India services from four destinations: Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Kochi and Goa. Also, Delta Air Lines will resume operations to Gatwick (LGW) with a seasonal summer route from New York (JFK), the U.S. carrier’s main transatlantic hub.
In addition, British Airways will strengthen its long-haul network with new services to Las Vegas, Vancouver and Georgetown this summer, complementing the carrier’s operations from North America, Central America, the Middle East, the Indian Ocean and the Caribbean.
London – Gatwick (LGW) recorded 213,952 total aircraft movements in 2022, a 76% recovery from pre-pandemic levels (281,000). In 2021, 52,000 aircraft arrived or departed from London’s second major airport.

- Central America: Liberia/Guanacaste and San Jose, Costa Rica.
