Colombia: LATAM files request for flights to United States and Ecuador

-

LATAM Airlines has requested to Colombian aviation authority permission to operate international routes to United States and Ecuador.

  • Bogota (BOG) – Orlando (MCO) – Bogota (BOG): 7 weekly flights on Airbus A319 and/or A320 operated by LATAM Colombia.
  • Guayaquil (GYE) – Bogotá (BOG) – Guayaquil (GYE): 7 weekly flights on Airbus A319 and/or A320 operated by LATAM Ecuador.

If the service to Orlando (MCO) materializes, the company will compete with Avianca and Spirit, that offer daily flights on this route. MCO is a destination with a strong presence of Delta, one of LATAM’s main partners, which will allow the airline to make onward connections.

The joint venture between Delta and LATAM was recently approved, which has allowed the South American carrier to launch new services between Sao Paulo (GRU) and Los Angeles (GRU), in addition to resuming routes from Miami (MIA) to Bogota (BOG), Fortaleza (FOR) and Quito (UIO), Boston (BOS) and Sao Paulo (GRU).

LATAM also increased its operations to the United States from its hubs in Lima (LIM) and Santiago de Chile (SCL). On the other hand, Delta has strengthened its operations to South America from its hubs in Atlanta (ATL) and New York (JFK) by offering more flights and incorporating aircraft with greater seating capacity.

If service to Guayaquil (GYE) becomes a reality, the company will compete with Avianca and Wingo, and will be the company’s second route between Ecuador and Colombia, complementing its operations between Bogota (BOG) and Quito (UIO).
