Flights to Cusco cancelled after airport closure due to riots

The Peruvian Corporation of Airports and Commercial Aviation CORPAC S.A. reported the temporary closure of the Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport (CUZ) that serves the city of Cusco, after a crowd of protesters violently entered the airport infrastructure and made cuts in the perimeter fence of the airport.

As a consequence, air operations at the Cusco terminal will remain suspended in order to safeguard the integrity and safety of passengers, users, general public and employees.

According to what was reported by Peru21, last night the passengers of SKY Airline Peru flight H2 5079 between Lima (LIM) and Cusco (CUZ) were evacuated. In view of the airport closure situation, the Peruvian low cost airline will offer its customers the option of changing their flight dates free of charge in the coming months and 100% refund of the reservation fee.

LATAM Airlines, the largest airline at Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport (CUZ), also announced the suspension of its operations at the Cusco terminal due to the protests generated, customers will have the option to change their flight at no cost up to 15 days from the original flight date.

A total of 34 flights were scheduled to arrive in Cusco on Tuesday, all of which have been cancelled.
