Dominican Republic: Plus Ultra inaugurated its flights to Santiago de los Caballeros

On December 17, Spanish carrier Plus Ultra began operations between Madrid (MAD) and Santiago de los Caballeros (STI), the company’s second service between Spain and the Dominican Republic.

Flight PU 971, operated by an Airbus A330-200 registered with registration EC-KOM, took off from Adolfo Suárez International Airport (MAD) at 11:36 local time and landed at Cibao International Airport (STI) at 15:47, after nine hours and 11 minutes.

This new route is carried out thanks to the commercial relationship between Grupo VDT and Plus Ultra. This operation will be the only air connection from Santiago de los Caballeros (STI) to Europe.

The Spanish airline plans to make another flight on December 21, 2022, this charter service allows it to connect Dominicans from Cibao living in Europe to visit the Dominican Republic during the Christmas season.

In the month of November this year, the Cibao International Airport (STI) registered record figures in passenger traffic where 571,354 passengers were mobilized, this represents a 24% increase compared to 2019 levels.

According to data obtained by Aviacionline through Aena Estadística, 753,111 passengers and 7,840.5 tons of cargo were mobilized in the January – November 2022 period between Spain and the Dominican Republic in 2,646 operations.

Plus Ultra currently offers twice weekly flights between Madrid (MAD) and Santo Domingo (SDQ) in Airbus A330-200 and between July – September of this year offered a seasonal service to Samaná (AZS).
