Aeromexico strengthens air connectivity to Nuevo Leon

-

Nuevo Leon consolidates as one of the main hubs in Mexico, after Aeromexico confirms that will reactivate non-stop services to Bajio (BJX), Guadalajara (GDL), Queretaro (QRO), San Luis Potosi (SLP) and Los Angeles (LAX) from Monterrey (MTY).

According to data obtained by Aviacionline through Cirium, Aeromexico in January 2023 will have an offer of 64,411 weekly seats in Monterrey (MTY): a 2% increase when compared with 2019 levels. With the increase in operations at Terminal B of General Mariano Escobedo International Airport (MTY), the airline has managed to restore much of its pre-pandemic capacity of seats offered.

«Growing the supply of domestic and international flights in Monterrey is essential to attract new investment and continue to boost the tourism sector in the city,» said Maricarmen Martinez, Secretary of Tourism in the State.

«We are a spearhead and benchmark in business tourism. One of the priorities of our governor, Samuel Garcia, is to position the state of Nuevo Leon as the main destination in the north of the country for connections,» added Martinez.

With the Aeromexico-Delta cross-border alliance, connectivity between Nuevo Leon and the United States has been strengthened with the reactivation of routes to Detroit (DTW) and Los Angeles (LAX), the latter starting on December 15, complementing operations from Atlanta (ATL).

The European market has been steadily increasing: Aeromexico between December and January will increase services between Monterrey (MTY) and Madrid (MAD) to five times per week then by June 2023 will reinforce its operation with daily flights, expanding Nuevo Leon’s connectivity with Europe.

According to data compiled by Aena Estadísticas, 53,002 passengers and 1,253.54 tons of cargo were moved between Monterrey (MTY) and Madrid (MAD) in the period January-October 2022. It is the fourth most important route between Mexico and Spain.

Based on data obtained by OMA Estadísticas, General Mariano Escobedo International Airport (MTY) has mobilized 1,090,808 international passengers, representing a 93.4% recovery compared to pre-pandemic levels.

Aeromexico will also reinforce domestic connectivity with the reactivation of services to Bajio (BJX), San Luis de Potosi (SLP), Queretaro (QRO) and Guadalajara (GDL), which will complement operations from Mexico City (MEX) and Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA). The Mexican airline currently offers 45,542 weekly seats between the Mexican capital and Monterrey (MTY).

The increase in these airline operations reinforces the state of Nuevo León as a hub for business and leisure, favoring the dynamism of the tourism sector and developing the automotive and technology industries, among others.

«We are proud to be able to reopen five routes from Nuevo Leon, a destination that has been key and of great importance to the growth of our operations for many years, and to whom we are grateful for all the support provided to make this success possible,» said Jose Zapata, Aeromexico’s Vice President of Sales Mexico.
