#TBT: Iraqi Airways’ flights between Iraq, Portugal and Brazil in 1980

In 1979, Iraqi Airways inaugurated regular flights between Baghdad (Iraq) and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) with a stopover in Lisbon. Operations began with Boeing 707-300 aircraft and later some flights were made on Boeing 747s.

The airline’s Boeing 707s were configured with First and Economy classes, as were the Boeing 747-200s.

During the few years of operations, Iraqi performed a weekly frequency between Baghdad, Lisbon and Rio de Janeiro.

Rio de Janeiro was the only South American destination of Iraqi Airways, which ceased operations in early 1980. Regarding other cities in the American continent, during the same period Barbados was part of the company’s schedule, with a stopover in the Portuguese capital in both directions.
