Swoop added its sixth Boeing 737 MAX 8

Canadian low-cost airline Swoop carried out the first operation of its sixth Boeing 737 MAX 8, operating flight WO360 from Toronto to Halifax. The airline has added six units of the model to its fleet -also comprised of ten Boeing 737-800NGs– in recent months.

Bob Cummings, Swoop’s president, said, «We are delighted to celebrate the entry into service of our sixth Boeing 737 MAX 8, which will enhance our capacity and sustainability. This aircraft represents our commitment to providing Canadians with greater access to travel options. It also helps us respond to growing demand.» The additions to the airline’s fleet have come into service at critical times. This has allowed the LCC to expand its offerings at times of peak demand.

The units are #Swoopster and #Swoopon, which entered service on June 30; #Winnipeg on Aug. 9; #Halifax on Oct. 22; #Charlottetown on Nov. 4; and the latter, named #Kelowna, which made its first flight last Nov. 20. «At Swoop, we name our aircraft in reference to the pillars of our company,» Cummings continued. «#Swoopon highlights our commitment to providing affordable air service to Canadians. «#Swoopster» is named after our employees. The other four aircraft celebrate some of the communities we serve that are critical to our operation».

Brad McMullen, senior vice president of North American sales for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, added, «The 737 MAX 8 is critical to the airline’s strategy to sustainably grow its route network. Our aircraft provides improved fuel efficiency and environmental performance».

Swoop, a subsidiary of Westjet, is based at Toronto-Pearson Airport. From there it flies to 37 destinations within Canada.
