Mexico: WestJet reconnects Manzanillo to Canada

On October 30 WestJet resumed non-stop operations between Calgary (YYC) and Manzanillo (ZLO), the airline’s ninth destination in Mexico. Currently, the airline’s offerings in Mexico are focused on popular sun and beach destinations.

Flight WS 2272, operated in a Boeing 737 registered C-GOCD, took off from Calgary International Airport (YYC) at 10:10 local time and landed at Playa de Oro International Airport (ZLO) at 14:35, after four hours and 25 minutes. WestJet is the only airline offering non-stop flights between Canada and Manzanillo (ZLO).

According to data obtained by Aviacionline through the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (FAA), WestJet has moved 633,366 passengers between Canada and Mexico in 4,314 operations. The airline is the fourth largest operator in this segment with a market share of 18.3%.

Flight Itinerary

  • Calgary – Manzanillo Flight WS 2272 YYC 09:40 – ZLO 15:37 Thursday and Sunday.
  • Manzanillo – Calgary Flight WS 2273 ZLO 16:30 – YYC 20:46 Thursday and Sunday.

The route will be operated on Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft with 174 seats in two classes (12 Premium Economy/162 Economy) and promotional fares are available starting at CAD 465 each way.

In consultation with CAIA data, between Calgary (YYC) and Manzanillo (ZLO), 18,102 passengers were mobilized in 2019 in 160 air operations. It was the second busiest international destination at Playa de Oro International Airport (ZLO).

WestJet’s network in Mexico comprises Cancun (CUN), Cozumel (CZM), Huatulco (HUX), Loreto (LTO), Mazatlan (MZT), Puerto Vallarta (PVR), San Jose de los Cabos (SJD), Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo (ZIH) and Manzanillo (ZLO). According to data compiled through Cirium, the airline will offer 46,950 seats per week between Canada and Mexico.

The market between Canada and Mexico continues to grow steadily: according to CAIA figures between January – September 2022, 2,016,998 passengers were mobilized with an occupancy factor of 78.9% between both nations in 13,938 operations. This represents an increase of 919% compared to the same period in 2021.
