As of December 1, Iberia will move its operations at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) from Terminal 7 to the newly renovated and expanded Terminal 8.
American Airlines, British Airways and Finnair, all of them members of Oneworld alliance, will also begin using the new facilities on the same day. In this way, their customers will benefit from the reduced waiting times and optimised connection processes that the single terminal operation will enable.
The modernised space will have five new boarding gates and four new parking positions capable of handling large aircraft. In addition, the renovation works have added 130.000 square metres of additional passenger space. Terminal 8 is expected to welcome around 10 million passengers a year.
The Iberia and Level check-in counters will be located in zones 6 and 7, according to the Spanish airline. The airline will have a total of six passenger acceptance desks.
New services
In a press release, Iberia highlighted the revamped services and new amenities that will be available for its customers at the largest airport serving New York City.
Terminal 8 will have two new lounges, which will be accessible to Iberia Plus Infinita, Singular, Platinum and Gold customers, as well as passengers travelling in Business Class.
On the other hand, Business Class users and holders of an Iberia Plus card with «emerald» or «sapphire» category of Oneworld alliance will be able to access a fast and differentiated service in the document control area.
Full recovery of Iberia’s capacity in the United States
The relocation of Iberia’s operations at John F. Kennedy International Airport will take place in the first weeks of the winter season when the airline expects to achieve full capacity recovery in the United States.
The airline has scheduled a total of 589.000 seats until 25 March, 15% more than in 2019, and around two thousand flights, 21% more than in the last year before the start of the pandemic. Initially, Iberia will operate thirteen weekly flights between Madrid (MAD) and New York (JFK). From 14 March 2023, the company will offer fourteen services per week in both directions.
