United strengthens Washington’s connectivity to Europe by summer 2023.

As part of its continued expansion into Europe, United is strengthening operations from its second major transatlantic hub in Washington-Dulles (IAD) with a new destination to Germany and an increased service to the French capital.

According to data obtained by Aviacionline through Cirium, the Chicago-based airline will offer 65,856 weekly seats between the U.S. capital and Europe on 280 operations. The carrier will offer up to sixteen destinations to the Old Continent from IAD for the 2023 summer season.

Schedule of the new services

Berlin – Brandenburg (BER)

Beginning May 25, 2023, this service will be available year-round.

  • Washington – Berlin Flight UA 234 IAD 17:45 – BER 08:20+1 daily flights.
  • Berlin – Washington Flight UA 235 BER 11:10 – IAD 14:30 daily flights.

The route will be operated by Boeing 767-400ER aircraft. This operation will be United’s second nonstop service to Brandenburg Airport (BER) and the carrier’s third German destination operated at IAD.

Paris (CDG)

The carrier will have a second daily overnight operation to the French capital beginning June 2, 2023.

  • Washington – Paris Flight UA 330 IAD 23:10 – CDG 12:35+1 daily flights.
  • Paris – Washington Flight UA 331 CDG 17:00 – IAD 19:23 daily flights.

This service will be operated on Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft. United last offered a second operation on this route on August 18, 2015. UA915/UA914 flights will continue to be operated on Boeing 777-200ER aircraft. The Chicago-based carrier also offers service to the French capital from Chicago (ORD), Newark (EWR) and San Francisco (SFO).

International recovery

According to data obtained through the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) 4,635,838 international passengers and 79,125 tons of cargo were moved in the January – August 2022 period at Washington – Dulles Airport (IAD), this represents an increase in passenger traffic of 146.3% and 30.2% in freight compared to the same period last year.

United has added new international destinations, deployed larger aircraft on key routes and resumed all of its pre-pandemic services at IAD. The company is the largest carrier in international operations in the Washington metropolitan area.

  • Brussels (BRU): daily flights on Boeing 777-300ER.
  • Paris (CDG): twice daily flights on Boeing 777-200ER and 787-8.
  • Dublin (DUB): daily flights on Boeing 757-200.
  • Edinburgh (EDI): daily flights on Boeing 757-200.
  • Rome – Fiumicino (FCO): daily flights on Boeing 777-200ER.
  • Frankfurt (FRA): twice daily flights on Boeing 777-300ER and 777-200ER.
  • Geneva (GVA): daily flights on Boeing 767-300ER High J.
  • London – Heathrow (LHR): three daily flights in Boeing 777-200ER and 767-300ER High J.
  • Lisbon (LIS): daily flights on Boeing 757-200.
  • Madrid (MAD): daily flights on Boeing 767-400ER.
  • Munich (MUC): daily flights on Boeing 777-200ER.
  • Zurich (ZRH): daily flights on Boeing 767-300ER High J.
