#TBT: Avianca flights between Colombia and Europe in 1954

-

Shortly after the end of World War II, Avianca inaugurated flights between Bogotá and Europe. The first destinations from Colombia were Lisbon and Paris, with intermediate stops.

At that moment, flights were operated with Douglas DC-4s, Douglas C-54s and Douglas DC-5s. After a few years, the airline added the Super Constellation to its fleet, which reduced the overall flight time, as they were the fastest jets of that era.

In the mid-1950s, Santa Maria (Azores), Lisbon, Madrid, Paris, Frankfurt and Hamburg were part of Avianca’s schedule. Excluding European cities, the company made stopovers in Barranquilla and Bermuda.
