GlobalX begins the second stage to obtain its Air Operator Certificate in Colombia

Global Crossing Airlines, known as GlobalX, announced the start of the second phase of its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) certification process in Colombia.

In June this year, the company had received initial approval from Aeronáutica Civil, the state agency responsible for the control and regulation of civil aviation in the country.

According to the company itself, its objective is to have the necessary authorisation to operate non-scheduled air cargo services under the name GlobalX Colombia. The company plans to use Airbus A321F and A321PCF aircraft with its main base at Bogotá’s El Dorado International Airport (BOG).

The subsidiary in the South American country will be wholly owned by GlobalX. It is currently headed by Roberto Held, former CFO of Avianca. The executive will become the CEO of the subsidiary upon final certification.

In the coming weeks, GlobalX Colombia will submit all technical, operation and maintenance manuals to the regulatory authority. This will inaugurate a new stage of the review process, which is conducted in Bogotá and led by a team of experts and advisors. Final approval is expected to be granted by the end of the first quarter of 2023.

GlobalX will become the first Latin American carrier to operate the freighter versions of Airbus A320 aircraft family.

«We are committed to establishing an ACMI cargo charter airline based in Colombia to serve our growing list of Latin American carriers and customers with our A321 freighter fleet», said Ed Wegel, Chairman and CEO of GlobalX. «This aircraft, with its greater volume capacity of 40% more than its nearest competitor, is an excellent option for Latin American airlines and cargo forwarders who need less than widebody volume and cost on certain routes», he added.
