Ecuador: Choice Cargo begins operations of Kalitta Air in Quito

Choice Cargo, General Sales Agent and commercial representative of the cargo carrier Kalitta Air, began operations with the airline at the Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO) in Quito.

The company has two weekly flights on Tuesdays and Fridays, using Boeing 747-400F aircraft with a cargo capacity of 100 tons, and moves cargo from the Ecuadorian capital to Miami International Airport (MIA) from where it is distributed to various cities in the United States and other nations around the world.

«Choice Cargo is pleased to announce that as of August 2022, we will begin operations at the Mariscal Sucre Airport in the city of Quito with two charter cargo flights with B747 aircraft on the Quito – Miami route, to provide greater capacity to the Ecuadorian market, thus supporting its growth in exports and imports to and from the United States with the highest standards of quality, taking care of the logistics chain of each of the products we transport, in order to contribute to the development of the country and the region,» said Diego Íñiguez, CEO of Choice Cargo.

Kalitta decided to start operations in Ecuador due to the increase in the market to the United States and different destinations in Europe, Asia and Oceania. Choice Cargo conducts all market studies considering key demand seasons.

In the international market, the quality of Ecuadorian flowers is highly valued, so it is necessary to increase flight capacity to promote the growth of exports.

«Choice Cargo’s commencement of operations in the Ecuadorian market represents a very important advance in terms of the supply of space for export cargo departing from Quito. The flower sector, our main user, has registered a significant increase in terms of its production and its capacity to place Ecuadorian flowers in international markets, and this cargo operation will help us meet the needs of exporters,» said Ramón Miró, President and CEO of Corporación Quiport.

Likewise, Quiport’s top executive pointed out that the choice of Choice Cargo to enter the country is at an optimal time, as the remaining five months of 2022 will help consolidate the airline’s operations for the 2023 Valentine’s Day peak season, which begins next January.

Kalitta Airlines has a total of 24 Boeing 747-400F freighters in its fleet, allowing it to add flights according to demand during Quito’s peak export season.
