American Airlines expands flight offering between Miami and Havana

As previously announced, American Airlines received authorization from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DoT) to add 13 extra weekly operations on its Miami (MIA)-Havana (HAV) service, the new flights are already available for sale as of December 5, 2022.

These services will complement the six daily flights the company currently operates on this route. According to data compiled by Aviacionline through Cirium, American will offer 20,334 seats per month between Miami (MIA) and Havana (HAV) in 110 operations, the airline’s largest offer of seats in this market.

Scheduling of the new flights

Beginning December 5.

Miami (MIA) – Havana (HAV)
  • Flight AA 242 MIA 08:03 – HAV 09:15 daily flights.
  • Flight AA 252 MIA 17:42 – HAV 18:59 daily flights (except Saturdays).
Havana (HAV) – Miami (MIA)
  •  Flight AA 243 HAV 10:15 – MIA 11:25 daily flights.
  • Flight AA 253 HAV 20:00 – MIA 21:10 daily flights (except Saturdays).

The new services will be operated on Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft with a capacity of 172 seats (16 First Class Domestic/24 Main Cabin Extra/132 Main Cabin) and promotional fares are available from USD 311 round trip. These new flights add 4,816 extra weekly seats to American’s service between Miami (MIA) and Havana (HAV).

What’s New for American Airlines in Cuba

AA 744/AA 743 flights between MIA – HAV will continue to operate with 273-passenger Boeing 777-200ERs (37 Business Class/24 Premium Economy/66 Main Cabin Extra/146 Main Cabin), the airline’s only widebody service in Cuba.

As of early November, the Dallas-based carrier is adding five new destinations in Cuba including daily service to Holguín (HOG), Santiago de Cuba (SCU), Varadero (VRA) and Camagüey (CMW); and two daily flights to Santa Clara (SNU). These routes will be operated by Boeing 737-800 NG and Airbus A319 aircraft.

According to data obtained through Cirium, American will have an offer of 33,638 monthly seats between the United States and Cuba in 194 operations, becoming the largest U.S. airline operator in this market. All these operations in the island will be carried out through Miami (MIA), American’s main hub for Latin America and the Caribbean.
