Aer Lingus takes delivery of its first Airbus A320neo

On Monday, September 26, Aer Lingus took delivery of its first Airbus A320neo with the registration number El-NSA and christened «St. Thomas», initially scheduled to fly exclusively to London. To celebrate the arrival of the new A320neo were Aer Lingus Fleet Director Kellie Woods, First Officer Conor Murray, and other crew members.

The first EI-NSA service was this Wednesday (28) on flight EI 152, which took off from Dublin Airport (DUB) at 06:50 local time and landed at London Heathrow Airport (LHR) at 07:42. Aer Lingus will offset all carbon emissions from the flight for all passengers on board.

The Airbus A320neo offers up to a 20% reduction in fuel and CO2 emissions and a nearly 50% decrease in noise footprint compared to previous generation aircraft, enabling the airline to prevent noise fines at busy airports such as Heathrow (LHR).

In addition, the new aircraft will have a 186-seat configuration, almost 7% more seats than the Airbus A320ceo currently owned by the airline, and the A320neo allows for reduced fuel emissions per seat/passenger on board.

Aer Lingus will take delivery of another Airbus A320neo this week, registered EI-NSB and christened «St. Aidan», these new aircraft are part of a leasing agreement with CDB Aviation. This model will form part of the company’s short/medium haul fleet, which will replace the A320ceo aircraft over the next few years.

The new generation aircraft will support the airline’s sustainability plans in which Aer Lingus, as part of IAG, committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and a commitment to power 10% of its flights with sustainable aviation fuel by 2030.

The Irish airline’s single-aisle aircraft fleet consists of 31 Airbus A320ceo and two A320neo for medium/short-haul missions and Airbus A321LRs that are mostly used for long-haul operations to the United States and Canada.
