Transportes Aéreos Guatemaltecos, known as TAG Airlines, presented its new corporate image and relaunched its brand at an event attended by Shirley Aguilar, Guatemala’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Francis Argueta Aguirre, Director of Aeronáutica Civil and Anayansy Rodríguez, Director of the Guatemalan Tourism Institute (INGUAT).

Marcela Toriello, President of TAG Airlines, assured that the company had begun «a new era». She stressed that the company «will reaffirm its firm commitment to air connectivity and development, through a profound process of modernisation».

For his part, Julio Gamero, the airline’s CEO, highlighted the incorporation of ATR 72-500 aircraft. The first one, registrated as TG-ATD, joined the TAG Airlines fleet last July 1st and completed its first scheduled commercial flight between Guatemala City’s La Aurora International Airport (GUA) and Mundo Maya International Airport (FRS), the airline’s two main hubs.

The company plans to have a total of four aircraft of the type through a lease agreement with Willis Lease Finance.

The initiative, which is very similar to the ones adopted by many airlines in recent years, will offer three different fares: Light, Flexi and Plus.

Current fleet and destination network

TAG Airlines’ domestic network currently consists of services from Guatemala City (GUA) to Flores (FRS), Puerto Barrios (PBR), Quetzaltenango (AAZ) and Retalhuleu (RER).

The company also offers international services in the region to Belize (BZE), Cancún (CUN), Oaxaca (OAX), Tapachula (TAP), Tuxtla Gutiérrez (TGZ), Mérida (MID), San Pedro Sula (SUL) and San Salvador (SAL).

TAG Airlines’ current fleet consists of six Saab 340A, two Saab 340B Plus, one Embraer ERJ 145LR, one Embraer 110, several Cessna 208 and helicopters. The addition of the ATR 72-500 will allow for continued growth in the domestic and regional markets.
