In a document published yesterday, aircraft manufacturer Embraer reported that it delivered 32 aircraft (11 commercial and 21 business jets) in the second quarter of this year. The firm order backlog reached a total value of 17.8 billion dollars at the end of June.
The Brazilian company delivered 46 aircraft (17 commercial and 29 business jets) in the first half of the year, ten fewer than in the same period of 2021. However, the order backlog grew by 12% and represented the best figure since 2018. At the end of the first half of last year, the total value of firm orders for Embraer products reached 15.9 billion dollars.
The final balance of the second quarter showed that aircraft deliveries accelerated compared to the first three months of the year. However, they remained below the 34 deliveries achieved in the second quarter of 2021. Last year, the world’s third largest manufacturer delivered a total of 141 aircraft.
Between April and June 2022, Embraer delivered eight E175 and three E195-E2. In the business aviation segment, it completed deliveries of two Phenom 100, ten Phenom 300, five Praetor 500 and four Prateor 600.
At the end of the first half of 2022, 312 aircraft were still to be delivered: 163 E195-E2, 143 E175, three E190 and three E190-E2.
New customers and P2F conversions
The manufacturer highlighted the welcome of Dominican airline Sky High as an operator of the E-Jets family, with the addition of two E190. The aircraft will be covered by the Pool Programme.
It also welcomed the agreement confirmed in June for the conversion of up to ten E-Jets into Passenger-to-Freighter aircraft with an «undisclosed» customer. In another contract, announced last May, Embraer and Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC) had agreed on the realization of up to ten E190 and E195 conversions process.
In the defence segment, the company highlighted the delivery of the latest AF-1 modernised fighter to the Brazilian Navy.
Farnborough Airshow 2022
At the Farnborough International Airshow, which ran from 18th to 22th July, Embraer received an order for twenty E195-E2 aircraft from Porter Airlines, worth an estimated 1.56 billion dollars. The new order brings the Canadian airline’s backlog to fifty firm orders and fifty additional purchase options for the type.
Furthermore, Alaska Air Group confirmed an order for eight E175 aircraft and an option for thirteen additional aircraft.
In the Services & Support segment, it confirmed the renewal and extension of its Pool Programme agreement with LOT Polish Airlines. In the long term, it will cover a total of 44 E-Jets. Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC) announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Kenyan company Astral Aviation to convert the first two Embraer 190 from passenger-carrying to cargo version.
In the defence segment, the Brazilian manufacturer entered into two cooperation agreements with BAE Systems, aimed at expanding both companies’ operations in the global defence market. The first one aims to promote the Embraer C-390 Millennium in the Middle East markets (initially in Saudi Arabia). The second one confirmed the intention to create a joint venture to develop a defence variant of Eve’s electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
