Spirit AeroSystems launches Airbus A220 components production in Morocco

-

Spirit AeroSystems, a company specializing in the manufacture of aerostructures for civil and military aircraft, celebrated yesterday the launch of production of Airbus A220 fuselage sections at its facility in Midparc, Casablanca, Morocco.

The company recently completed the expansion work on the plant, which now covers 25.000 square meters. The site employs around 300 people.

Aircraft fuselage sections have already begun to be produced at Midparc. As reported by the company in a press release, the plant integrates expertise in developing components for Bombardier’s business jets to support Airbus commercial programs.

The structures are then shipped from Morocco to the company’s facility in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where final assembly takes place. The company acquired both production sites in 2020 as part of a business diversification strategy. The partnership with Airbus is one of the main aspects of the initiative.

«The Kingdom already builds parts for all of Airbus’ commercial aircraft, including the A220», noted Mikail Houari, Airbus President for Africa and the Middle East. «This aircraft is the latest addition to our product line and consequently to our industrial footprint in Morocco», he added.

Spirit AeroSystems is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of aerostructures. It specializes in aluminum and advanced composite manufacturing solutions. The company’s main products include fuselages, integrated wings and their components.
