Through official decree number 1693 of 25 June 2022, the Russian government approved a comprehensive air transport development programme until 2030. They state that «in the face of external constraints, the strategic goal of the sector will be an accelerated transition to national equipment».
The Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Mishustin, signed the document, which stipulates a total funding of more than 770 billion roubles over the next seven years. More than 150 billion roubles will be destinated to the sector until the end of this year. The official stressed that the Russian aviation industry and airlines are currently facing a shortage of necessary components and technologies.
According to the administration, «more than one thousand Russian aircraft are expected to join the fleets of domestic airlines by 2030». These include more than 140 Superjet 100s, 270 Irkut MS-21-310s, 70 Ilyushin IL-114-300s and Tupolev Tu-214s. They also plan to supply a large number of TVRS-44 Ladoga, L-410 Turbolet and Baikal LMS-901 aircraft.
In addition, they plan to manufacture and deliver more than 760 helicopters to airlines. Production of the Kazan Ansat and Mil Mi-8, two of the most popular models on the market, is expected to be stepped up.
A specific section of the programme will be devoted to the production of engines for the entire range of Russian civil aircraft. According to the government, the United Engine Corporation is already working to increase production in order to meet demand, which has increased following the sanctions imposed on Russia. They claim that almost five thousand aircraft and helicopter engines will be produced by 2030.
