Frontier Airlines inaugurates flights to Cancun from Houston

Frontier Airlines inaugurated a daily nonstop flight to Cancun (CUN), Mexico, from Houston William P. Hobby (HOU) and George Bush (IAH) Intercontinental Airports.

“We are excited to launch new international service to Cancun from Houston’s two major airports,” said Frontier Airlines representative Stephen Shaw.

Cancun is Frontier’s third destination from HOU, including Orlando and Las Vegas. IAH has six destinations: Atlanta, Denver, Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Orlando and now, Cancun.

Frontier in Mexico

Frontier does not have a large presence in Mexico, with a 5.5% seat supply it is the eighth largest U.S. carrier with flights to Cancun (CUN), Guadalajara (GDL), Los Cabos (SJD) and Monterrey (MTY) to fourteen U.S. destinations on 16 routes.

By July 2022, Cancun represents 88% of Frontier’s operations with flights to Denver (DEN), Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), Houston (IAH and HOU), Tampa (TPA), Orlando (MCO), Miami (MIA), Atlanta (ATL), Philadelphia (PHL), Cleveland (CLE), Chicago/O’Hare (ORD), St. Louis (STL) and Cincinnati (CVG).

Although the same Mexican city adds flights to eleven other U.S. cities during the winter season.

According to data compiled by Aviacionline through the Mexican Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) between January and March 2022, Frontier has a 2.9% market share in the Mexican market by moving 337,752 passengers.
