Aerolineas Argentinas and GOL set an air bridge between Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo

During the PANROTAS 2022 Forum, Aerolíneas Argentinas and GOL Linhas Aereas announced an increase in frequencies between Buenos Aires/Aeroparque (AEP), Argentina, and São Paulo/Guarulhos (GRU), Brazil, with the aim of implementing an exclusive shuttle service before the end of the year.

Both companies have the largest offer and destinations between Argentina and Brazil, which has been growing over the years, strengthened by their codeshare agreement signed in 2014. This announcement will facilitate the flow of passengers on one of the most important international routes in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Currently, GOL has two daily flights and Aerolíneas Argentinas has another three flights a day. Starting in August, both companies will offer four flights and 2,800 seats per day on Boeing 737-8 aircraft.

This «air bridge» will allow passengers to access benefits including exclusive check-in and boarding, and to change flights on the same day at no cost on either of the two airlines.

During 2019, 1,691,517 passengers flew between Buenos Aires and São Paulo, according to ANAC Argentina.

Argentina and Brazil, one of the largest international markets in the region

The market between both countries has been one of the biggest bets to reactivate tourism in the region.

In 2019, more than 3,838,645 passengers were mobilized, according to ANAC. Argentines mostly choose the Brazilian coasts, on the other hand, the Brazilian tourist chooses mountain and snow destinations.

GOL, the leading airline between Argentina and Brazil

GOL returned to Argentina in December 2021 with flights to Florianópolis (FLN), Rio de Janeiro/Galeao (GIG) and São Paulo/Guarulhos (GRU). Prior to the pandemic, it was the airline with the largest offer of destinations in Argentina and passengers, since it connected 10 Brazilian cities through 16 routes to Argentina, allowing it to transport more than 1,067,000 passengers.

Recently, GOL reestablished its flights to Mendoza (MDZ), which will increase from three to four frequencies per week before the end of the year.

In addition, in November it will resume operations to Rosario (ROS) and Cordoba (COR) with three weekly flights to Rio de Janeiro/Galeao (GIG) and São Paulo/Guarulhos (GRU).

On the other hand, non-stop flights from Fortaleza (FOR) to Buenos Aires-Aeroparque will return in August. Then, in December, services from João Pessoa (JPA), Maceio (MCZ), Natal (NAT), Recife (REC) and Salvador (SSA) will return to take advantage of the summer season.

Between January and May 2022, the company ranked second among airlines flying between Argentina and Brazil, with 20% of the share by carrying 128,266 passengers between the two countries, according to ANAC Brazil.

Aerolineas Argentinas

Aerolíneas Argentinas ranked second in terms of destinations offered and passenger movement in 2019, with flights from Buenos Aires to Curitiba (CWB), Porto Alegre (POA), Porto Seguro (BPS), Rio de Janeiro/Galeao (GIG), Salvador (SSA) and São Paulo/Guarulhos (GRU); in season are joined by services to Florianópolis (FLN), including operations from Córdoba (COR), Rosario (ROS) and Mendoza (MDZ), mobilizing more than 1,027,000 travelers.

Currently, the company resumed all the routes it operated from Buenos Aires to Brazil, except for Porto Seguro, although it included Brasilia (BSB) after having been suspended in 2015.

Aerolíneas Argentinas bet on a greater offer of destinations from the interior of Argentina to São Paulo/Guarulhos, given that as of July it will establish non-stop services to Córdoba (COR), Salta (SLA) and Bariloche (BRC). It will also have direct services to Tucumán (TUC), El Calafate (FTE) and Ushuaia (USH) via Buenos Aires/Ezeiza (EZE), Córdoba or Salta.
