SKY Airlines issued a statement clarifying the company’s situation after the creation of the Abra Group holding company, which will include Avianca and GOL, was announced last Wednesday, in what represented the latest and strongest of the telluric movements in the Latin American airline market.
The Chilean ultra-low-cost airline (with a subsidiary in Peru) indicated that «the transaction does not involve changes in SKY’s ownership structure or in its management. Its majority shareholders continue to maintain control of the company and it will continue to operate independently from Abra Group, Avianca, Gol and Viva».
They also clarify that «without prejudice to the foregoing, subject to the approvals that may be relevant for its creation, Abra Group may acquire the credit granted to SKY, which could be converted in the future into shares representing a minority percentage of the ownership of the company».

In 2021, a group of investors granted SKY a credit convertible into shares dated 2026, which was later assigned to a parent company of Avianca. That is why the latter and GOL, when they announced the birth of Abra, also named SKY as another of the potential «branches» of the group in the region, as well as Viva; although the latter would be a total incorporation given that the Colombian low-cost carrier is in the process of being acquired by Avianca.
