Ecuador Continues Strengthening Cargo Operations

-

Last week, Ecuador’s National Civil Aviation Council renewed the US cargo airline United Parcel Services (UPS) license. The authorized operation would be between the United States of America, Ecuador and vice versa, with third and fourth air freedom traffic rights.

Aircraft authorized for UPS to perform cargo services are Boeing 757 and Boeing 767. UPS’s main operations and maintenance base is located at the Louisville Standford Airport, Kentucky, United States of America.

The cargo airline has been operating in Ecuador since April 2019, and this license renewal will have a term of 3 years, counted from May 19, 2022.

On the other hand, the National Civil Aviation Council of Ecuador granted a cargo operation permit to the Panamanian airline Compañía Panameña de Aviación S.A. (Copa Airlines).

The airline requested the granting of an operating permit for the provision of regular air transport service, exclusive of cargo. The request is to operate to and from the Republic of Ecuador, on the following routes, frequencies, and rights:

  • Panama – Lima – Quito – Panama, up to 3 weekly frequencies, with third, fourth and fifth air freedom rights.
  • Panama – Santo Domingo – Bogotá – Quito – Panama, up to 3 weekly frequencies, with third, fourth and fifth air freedom rights.

Copa Airlines will use in its service, its Boeing 737-700, Boeing 737-800, and Boeing 737-900 versions. Copa Airlines’ main operations and maintenance base is located at the Tocumen International Airport, Panama. This operating permit will have a term of 3 years.

Thus, Ecuador continues to strengthen international air cargo operations, thus connecting the South American country with more international destinations.
