With the summer season closing, American Airlines made its last flight to Montevideo from Miami on March 25th. The US carrier had three weekly services on Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft, with capacity for 234 passengers.
American Airlines was the only company to offer a non-stop connection between the United States and Uruguay. In early 2022, Eastern Airlines cancelled its flights to the Uruguayan capital, which remain suspended with no tentative return date.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, American modified its schedule of operations to Uruguay. Previously, flights to Montevideo were year-round, while currently they are seasonal.

According to the press release sent by American, effective October 30th, summer operations between Miami and Montevideo will return. As in the 2021/22 season, services will be performed by Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft.
The airline will fly three times a week to the Uruguayan city until March 2023. Between December 14th and January 1st, given the increase in demand, American will offer one daily frequency.
