Allegiant adds five destinations in Provo, Utah

-

After announcing last week the opening of a base in Provo (PVU), Utah, Allegiant announced five new routes that will join the current seven destinations it serves from there.

ULCC will link this city with:

  • Las Vegas (LAS) in Nevada; beginning August 18 with four weekly flights (Monday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday).
  • Los Angeles (LAX) in California; starting September 2 with two weekly flights (Monday and Friday).
  • San Diego (SAN) in California; starting August 18 with four weekly flights (Thursdays and Sundays).
  • Portland (PDX) in Oregon; starting September 2 with two flights a week (Monday and Friday).
  • Orlando/Sanford (SFB) in Florida; starting Dec. 15 with two weekly flights (Sunday and Thursday).

«We are thrilled to grow our network and offer Allegiant travelers new flight options. Our recent announcement to begin base operations in Provo, Utah» said Drew Wells, Allegiant’s senior vice president of revenue and planning.

According to the company, the initiative will require an investment of about $95 million and will create at least 157 new jobs and base four aircraft.

According to the release, it plans to hire new pilots, cabin crew, mechanics and ground personnel to support operations.

In addition to Allegiant’s Utah announcement, it will add two new routes from Minnesota and Ohio to popular beach destinations in Florida, Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) to Sanford (SFB), Florida, beginning Oct. 6; and Fort Lauderdale (FLL) beginning Nov. 19. From Minneapolis-Saint Paul (MSP) it will be connected to Sarasota (SRQ) starting October 6.

Allegiant will shortly cease to be the only airline in Provo

For nearly a decade Allegiant was the only airline to operate in Provo, 45 miles from Salt Lake City, with flights to Austin (AUS) and Houston-Hobby (HOU) in Texas; Orange Country (SNA) and Palm Springs (PSP) in California; Phoenix/Mesa (AZA) and Phoenix/Sky Harbor (PHX) in Arizona; St. Petersburg/Clearwater (PIE) in Florida.

Allegiant made the Provo airport the second busiest airport in Utah, behind Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC), one of Delta Air Lines’ hubs.

On the same day, Breeze announced it will land in Utah in August with flights to San Francisco (SFO), Los Angeles (LAX) and San Bernardino (SBD) in California; Las Vegas (LAS) in Nevada; and Westchester (HPN) in New York.
