The head of the state corporation, Sergey Chemezov, noted during a speech to the Russian Federation Council that «we plan to start production of the SSJ, Sukhoi Superjet, with domestic PD-8 engines in 2024». Also, the executive added that «twenty units per year should roll off our production line» of the model, equipped with Russian technology.
The company is technically capable, Chemezov told Tass, of producing up to forty SSJs a year, provided there is market demand. United Aircraft Corporation – part of Rostec – plans for the first flight of the SSJ 100 with the Russian Aviadvigatel PD-8 engine to take place in early 2023.
Speaking about the future MC-21, Chemezov noted that the first units equipped with the Aviadvigatel PD-14 engine should be delivered to airlines in 2024. «Airlines will receive the first six MC-21s with the PD-14 engine in 2024.» The PD-14 will also be used as the basis for new powerplants.
Demand for the MC-21 and Sukhoi SSJ 100 has increased sharply due to the current context, mainly as a result of U.S. and EU sanctions that include, among others, the total disruption of aircraft and component supplies to Russia.
