Delta Airlines is increasing its operation to Australia for the northern winter season for service between Los Angeles (LAX) and Sydney (SYD) beginning December 16, 2022.
The Atlanta-based carrier increases the route from daily flights to 10 times per week on its flagship Airbus A350-900 aircraft, which includes Delta One Suites, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+, and Main Cabin products. Customers will be able to take advantage of the airline’s extensive network at Los Angeles (LAX) and make connections to nearly 50 cities in the United States and Latin America.

- Flight DL41 LAX 22:30 – SYD 08:30+2 daily flights.

- Flight DL40 SYD 11:20 – LAX 06:00 daily flights.
- Flight DL42 SYD 14:15 – LAX 09:00 Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday.

According to data obtained by Aviacionline through the Australian Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Cities and Regional Development, in the period June 2018-2019 the service between Sydney (SYD) – Los Angeles (LAX) was the main route between the United States and Australia where they mobilized 903,744 passengers and 36,189.3 tons of cargo.
In the same period, Delta Airlines mobilized 183,015 passengers on this route with an occupancy factor of 86.5% and 7,613.8 tons of cargo in 728 air operations. Delta will compete in this segment with Qantas, American, and United, the latter having partnered with its former joint venture partner Virgin Australia, which ceased long-haul operations in 2020.
From Los Angeles (LAX), Delta has committed to improving the airport experience for customers at its West Coast hub, the company will have a new check-in lobby, an expanded security checkpoint and for the first time, there will be a baggage claim area.
