Iberia Mantenimiento, the Spanish airline’s division in charge of the group’s maintenance, overhaul, and repair (MRO) operations, has signed a 10-year contract to maintain the IAE V2500 engines of the A320 family aircraft belonging to Qatar Airways.
All work will be carried out in the engine workshop at the Iberia Maintenance facility located near Madrid airport. The complex, called La Muñoza, has more than 52,000 square meters of buildings dedicated to various engineering and repair tasks.
Javier Sánchez-Prieto, Iberia’s president and CEO, said he is «delighted that Qatar Airways has entrusted Iberia with the maintenance of the V2500 engines for its fleet». He added that this is thanks to the investments made by the group. «In recent years, we have invested heavily in the development of this product. We will continue to do so to ensure that we offer a competitive service,» he said.
Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways, added: «Iberia Maintenance is a strategic partner for our operation. We will provide maintenance services to our large A320 fleet. Therefore, we are confident in the expertise and quality of service they will provide.
According to the specialized site planespotters.net, Qatar Airways has a total of 31 A320 family aircraft in its fleet: twenty-nine A320s and two A321s, the longest variant of the model. All are powered by International Aero Engines V2500 engines. In 2015, the MRO services market for V2500 engines was valued at around $3 billion.
