With the start of the boreal summer season 2022, American Airlines resumes several seasonal services that were suspended for more than two years, the American carrier will resume operations to Spain from its East Coast hubs in Philadelphia (PHL) and Charlotte (CLT).
According to data obtained by Aviacionline through Aena Estadísticas in 2019, American Airlines mobilized 1,375,917 passengers and 26,847, 6 tons of cargo in 6,112 air operations between the United States and Spain, for this summer together with Iberia its Joint Venture partner will offer the largest seating capacity between both nations.
Resumption of flights from Philadelphia (PHL)
Madrid (MAD)
As of March 26, the U.S. carrier resumed operations in the Spanish capital with daily flights operated in 234-seat Boeing 787-8s, replacing the Airbus A330s that operated in the summer of 2019, the schedule is the following:
- Philadelphia – Madrid Flight AA740 PHL 19:00 – MAD 08:10+1.
- Madrid – Philadelphia Flight AA741 MAD 12:45 – PHL 15:20
According to data compiled by Aena Estadísticas, this route in 2019 mobilized 136,578 passengers and 3,641.5 tons of cargo in 720 air operations.
Barcelona (BCN)
On March 26 the U.S. company resumed operations to the Catalan capital with daily flights operated in Boeing 787-8 of 234 seats, replacing the Airbus A330s that operated in the summer of 2019, the schedule is the following:
- Philadelphia – Barcelona Flight AA742 PHL 17:55 – BCN 07:25+1
- Barcelona – Philadelphia Flight AA743 BCN 13:40 – PHL 16:15
According to data compiled by Aena Estadísticas, this route in 2019 mobilized 85,328 passengers and 837.8 tons of cargo in 410 air operations.

Resumption of flights from Charlotte (CLT).
From its main domestic hub on the East Coast, American Airlines reconnects Charlotte with Spain, from March 26 the company resumed operations to Madrid (MAD) with daily flights on 273-seat Boeing 777-200ER, replacing the Airbus A330 that operated in the 2019 summer season, the schedule in the following:
- Charlotte – Madrid Flight AA748 CLT 16:55 – MAD 06:40+1
- Madrid – Charlotte Flight AA749 MAD 11:15 – CLT 14:25
According to data obtained by Aena Estadísticas in 2019 on this route, 87,096 passengers and 1,330.4 tons of cargo were mobilized in 421 air operations.
