Aeromexico advances with its landing in Santa Lucia

Aeromexico announced that it will begin operations at Santa Lucia Airport (AIFA) on March 21, bringing forward its operations by one month when it had originally planned to begin on April 25.

The airline said that negotiations with the airport administration were quicker than expected, so flights will be available from the start-up of the airport terminal.

It will maintain the same announced routes, operating a daily flight to Merida (MID) and Villahermosa (VSA) in Embraer 190 aircraft with a capacity for 99 passengers, with the objective of building the airport’s initial demand.

It is the third confirmed company to fly at AIFA; Viva Aerobus will have flights to Guadalajara and Monterrey and Volaris to Cancun and Tijuana. In total, together with Aeromexico, AIFA will have 12 daily flights for 1,140 passengers per day.

Conviasa will have a special flight on inauguration day from Caracas (CCS) which will be operated by Airbus A340-300.

AIFA will be inaugurated on March 21. The airport is intended to relieve congestion at Mexico City’s International Airport (AICM), which was recently declared overcrowded.
