AerCaribe requested flights to the U.S., Puerto Rico and Bolivia

AerCaribe, a cargo airline based in Colombia, applied to the Colombian aviation authority to operate three new destinations from Bogota (BOG).

Through applications 20220010046 and 2022011782 dated February 3 and 2022021932 dated March 7, 2022, the company specified these routes:

  • Bogota (BOG) – Miami (MIA), United States – Bogota (BOG); with up to three weekly flights.
  • Bogota (BOG) – Santa Cruz de la Sierra (VVI), Bolivia – Bogota (BOG); with up to three weekly flights.
  • Bogota (BOG) – San Juan (SJU), Puerto Rico – Bogota (BOG); with one weekly flight.

All three would be operated with Boeing 737-400 (F) and (SF) aircraft with fourth freedom of the air rights.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) mandated in 2010 that the aircraft be equipped with hardware to use the FAA’s most sophisticated satellite-based air traffic control management system, NextGen, which replaces traditional ground-based radar technology.

This transition step requires the aircraft to have Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast Out (ADS-B) capability either at the time of manufacture or retrofitted with a kit.

AerCaribe’s aircraft are equipped with such technologies, enabling it to open its two links to the United States as soon as possible.

On the other hand, Santa Cruz de la Sierra is a regular destination for the company, but from Lima (LIM) in Peru with a weekly flight.

The Fleet

AerCaribe’s fleet currently consists of two Boeing 737-400 (SF) and one Boeing 737-400 (F). These aircraft operate from Bogota (BOG) to Leticia (LET), Monteria (MTR) and Pasto (PSO) in Colombia; Lima (LIM) and Iquitos (IQT) in Peru; Panama/Tocumen (PTY); San Jose (SJO) in Costa Rica and Willemstad (CUR) in Curacao; from Lima (LIM) to Santa Cruz de la Sierra (VVI) in Bolivia and Iquitos (IQT).

AerCaribe also has an Antonov An-32 and an An-26 for these other domestic destinations: San Andres, Leticia, Puerto Inirida, Cali, Medellin, Barranquilla, San Jose del Guaviare, Mitu, Miraflores, La Chorrera and Araracuara. In Peru it operates from Lima to Iquitos, Andoas, Trompeteros, Tarapoto, Trujillo, Pucallpa, Nuevo Mundo, Malvinas, Cuzco and Arequipa.
