Wizz Air to reward passengers who rent electric or hybrid cars

-

The Hungarian-based European low-cost airline announced a new reward scheme for passengers who rent electric or hybrid vehicles, as a measure to mitigate the environmental impact of transportation.

Thanks to an agreement with Rentalcars.com and sustainable car rental company Green Motion, Wizz Air passengers will receive a rebate of up to 10% of the cost of renting electric or hybrid cars.

«Along with access to affordable, customer-friendly car rental options through its ongoing partnership with Rentalcars.com, Wizz Air also rewards customers who choose a more sustainable car rental option with an additional rebate. Green Motion has been recognized for its efforts in delivering lower emission rental vehicles, winning the Green Fleet of the year award for eight consecutive years,» says a statement issued by the airline.

When booking a vehicle during the Wizz Air ticket purchase process, customers were already eligible for a 5% discount through the Rentalcars.com platform. Now, if they choose to rent a car with lower CO2 emissions, they will additionally receive a credit of 10% of the rental cost.

Johan Eidhagen, Chief People & ESG Officer of Wizz Air, said that the company strives to reduce the environmental footprint of its operations. «This, together with our commitment to optimizing the customer’s travel experience, is why we are pleased to launch this new rewards scheme through our partner Rentalcars.com, which will allow our customers to easily rent cars across our extensive network at a reduced price, making the greenest possible choice by choosing Green Motion».

Matthias Schmid, Vice President and General Manager of Rentalcars.com stated, «We are delighted to partner with Wizz Air to offer travelers access to eco-friendly car rental options in collaboration with Green Motion; their customers can not only do their part for the environment, but also make great savings at the same time. We have worked with Wizz Air for over seven years, they are a valued partner for us and this new initiative is one we are particularly excited about.»

For his part, Richard Lowden, founder and CEO of Green Motion, said, «Green Motion has one of the broadest choices of environmentally friendly vehicles within our industry, including hybrids, rechargeable hybrids and fully electric, which are available for rent at Green Motion locations in many of Wizz Air’s destinations. The Green Motion network is looking forward to working closely with Wizz Air and Rentalcars.com to deliver this fantastic benefit that rewards our mutual customers for joining us on our journey to make car rental greener, one trip at a time.»

Wizz Air, part of the Indigo Partners group alongside Frontier (United States), Volaris (Mexico) and JetSMART (Chile and Argentina), was recently recognized as Europe’s most sustainable airline as ranked by Sustainalytics.
