Viva Aerobus increases operations between Mexico City and Bogota

VIVA Aerobus will increase its operations on the Mexico City (MEX) and Bogota (BOG) route as of April 8, the ultra low-cost Mexican airline will offer two daily flights.

The announcement was made at the Vitrina Turística 2022 of the Colombian Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (ANATO), in the presence of authorities from the District Tourism Institute of Bogota and the airline.

The new models will be operated on 186-seat Airbus A320s, aircraft that form part of one of the youngest fleets in the region.

Viva Aerobus currently has a 9.4% market share in the Colombia-Mexico market and its partner VIVA has a 14.7% share, between the two companies has provided a significant increase in the air sector between the two nations.

Viva Aerobus first landed in South America in August 2021 and chose its first destination in Colombia, which represents 58.36% of the market between Mexico and South America. The route between Mexico City (MEX) and Bogota (BOG) was the company’s first one between the two nations; in December, the airline added a new link from Cancun (CUN) to the Colombian capital.

Bogota (BOG) is the main Colombian destination to Mexico with a 76.7% market share between the two nations. In April of this year, Viva Aerobus will add a second destination in Colombia to Medellin (MDE), where the low cost carrier will offer flights from Mexico City (MEX) and Cancun (CUN).

For the boreal summer season 2022, Viva Aerobus will offer up to 31 flights per week between Mexico and Colombia, in January of this between both nations 156,276 passengers have been mobilized in 1,130 air operations, representing an increase of 304.1% and 213.9% respectively with the same month of 2021, the occupancy factor was 77%.

The route between the Colombian and Mexican capitals is one of the busiest in Latin America; between January and November 2021, 352,813 passengers and 24,516.34 tons of cargo were mobilized in 2,804 air operations.
