Ryanair is the leading airline operator in Italy. As per data obtained by Aviacionline through the Ente Nazionale Per L’Aviazione Civile (ENAC) in 2019 the company mobilized 40,527,373. Thus becoming the leading airline at the international level and the second at the national level. For the 2022 boreal summer season, it expects to offer the largest range of destinations and seats on Italian territory.
Ryanair will add 25 new aircraft for the 2022 summer season, increasing its fleet to 92 in Italy, which means an investment of USD 9 billion, support of 3,000 jobs dedicated to aviation, and more than 40,000 direct jobs at 29 Italian airports.
The largest airline, in order to offer further growth and recovery in the airline sector, has requested the following initiatives from government authorities:
- Abolish the municipal surcharge on air travel from April 1, 2022, to March 2025.
- Suspend environmental taxes on short-haul flights from the European Union.
- Double Ryanair frequencies at Rome Ciampino to 200 daily flights (i.e. 6 round-trip flights per hour).
Milan
Ryanair announced the largest offer from its two bases in Milan (Bergamo and Malpensa) with 144 routes, including three new routes to Madeira, Newcastle, and Frankfurt Hahn. Promotional fares are from EUR 19.99 until October 2022.
Rome
From the Irish carrier’s two bases in Rome (Fiumicino and Ciampino) the company will offer 82 routes, including 17 new ones to popular destinations in Europe.
New routes for the 2022 northern summer season
Berlin, Brussels, Cologne, East Midlands, Prague, Valencia, Stockholm, Tangier, Menorca, Zadar, Gran Canaria, Cuneo, Fez, Kefalonia, Figari, Préveza and Trapani.
Cagliari
Ryanair will add an extra aircraft increasing its fleet to three at Cagliari Airport for the 2022 summer season for a total investment of USD 300 million, offering 38 routes and more than 170 flights per week, representing a 50% increase in capacity.
From Cagliari, the Irish carrier will offer flights to popular cities such as Madrid, Dublin, Venice, Milan, and Paris, as well as new destinations to Carcassone, Nuremberg, Palma de Mallorca, and Poznan.
«The introduction of these new routes from Cagliari reinforces our commitment to increasing connectivity, travel options, and inbound tourism in the area. Ryanair will now offer the Region 50% additional capacity compared to pre-pandemic» said Jason McGuiness, Ryanair’s Chief Commercial Officer.
