LaGuardia Airport (LGA) has completed the transformation of the passenger facilities at its Terminal B, finalizing a $4 billion redevelopment project.
“The transformation of LaGuardia Airport into a world-class destination internationally recognized for its beauty is an integral part of our bold vision for a new era in New York,” said Kathy Hochul, Governor of New York State.
“The completion of this $4 billion project will help deliver a new passenger experience for everyone traveling through Terminal B, making connections easier and creating lasting impressions. Congratulations to everyone who made today’s milestone possible as we continue to create a brand new LaGuardia Airport worthy of New York,” added Hochul.
Terminal B includes 1.35 million square feet of new facilities and features 35 gates, a 3,000-car parking garage and new cab and car-sharing facilities. It also offers a wide variety of stores that provide customers with an enhanced travel experience.
Airlines currently operating out of Terminal B include Air Canada, American Airlines, JetBlue, Southwest and United.
The world’s first dual pedestrian overpasses
One of the most notable architectural elements of Terminal B is the dual pedestrian skybridges, 482 feet long and rising 60 feet from the ground.
Since 2020, travelers have used one of the completed bridges to access Terminal B’s east gates. The terminal’s new Twin Island gate design provides additional space and options for aircraft movements during departure and arrival.
Project Background
In 2015, new plans to rebuild at LaGuardia Airport (LGA) were unveiled with the goal of providing a world-class experience for travelers.
In February 2018, the new parking garage and dedicated level for Uber, Lyft and other ride-hailing services opened. In December of the same year, the first of 18 new gates opened.
In August 2020, a second new concourse opened its first gates in Terminal B, followed by additional gates in December 2021. Terminal B recently received UNESCO’s Prix Versailles 2021, the world prize for architecture and design.

From a passenger standpoint, the old LaGuardia is no more. We have gone from worse to better, something no one thought possible when this project began. Terminal B creates a world-class passenger experience and does so in the context of world-class architecture, inspiring public art and remarkable, iconic, locally inspired concessions,” said Rick Cotton, executive director of the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey.
