Brasilia airport project will include a mall and theme parks

The concessionaire Inframerica (part of Argentina’s Corporación América) has begun the second stage of the Brasilia airport expansion (Presidente Juscelino Kubitschek International Airport), which came under private management exactly ten years ago. The project foresees that the airport complex will now receive a shopping center, a logistics center, and an area with theme parks for passengers.

This information was published on Monday (7) by the newspapers Valor Econômico and Correio Braziliense. According to journalists Daniel Rittner and Jéssica Eufrásio, respectively, the investments are expected to be around R$ 700 million and the works are expected to be ready between the end of 2023 and the first half of 2024.

Two of the projects already have defined partners. Grupo Partage will be in charge of the construction of the shopping center. The company has been designing, marketing and managing shopping centers in Brazil since 1997. The 60,000-square-meter structure will have 130 stores, 11 restaurants, 11 fast-food chains and seven movie theaters.

«When the pandemic came, this was already devised, because we did qualitative research with people in Brasilia about what an ideal shopping center is, and the focus (of the responses) was this leisure and experience part. It is a global trend to offer a shopping space with more quality,» Ian Joels, commercial director of Inframerica, told Correio Braziliense.

Logistics

Log CP is carrying out the construction of the new merchandise distribution point. The company has experience in the construction and leasing of warehouses and large logistics condominiums. This complex will have 66 thousand m² of warehouses for rent, in a total area of 120 thousand m². Also, the space will have parking, changing rooms, restaurants, maintenance service, and 24-hour surveillance.

The third project consists of the construction of three medium-sized amusement parks, with thematic options and by age groups. The names of the partners who will take over this business are confidential, but the contract with the investors has been closed.

Inframerica took over the management of Brasilia airport in 2012, following the first round of airport concessions from the federal government. At that time, the Consortium initiated the first major renovation and expansion works at the airport, starting the construction of the Terminal’s North and South piers, which ensured an increase in the number of boarding gates and the expansion of the usable area.

In 2021, the airport served 10.5 million passengers, making it the third busiest airport in Brazil. The figure is still lower than those recorded in the pre-pandemic era, when more than 16.5 million travelers passed through in 2019.
