-

Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings subsidiary Atlas Air, and Cainiao Network, the logistics arm of Alibaba Group, announced the expansion of their strategic partnership. It will be adding a new Boeing 747-8 Freighter under a long-term agreement.

In November 2021, in response to trade growth, Cainiao expanded its partnership with Atlas Air. For this purpose, they included daily charter flights operated between China and Latin America, after arranging five Boeing 747-400Fs.

This new expansion between the two companies will increase the fleet to six dedicated aircraft. The new service will become effective in the second quarter of 2022, with the link starting in Hong Kong (HKG) and then heading to Anchorage (ANC), Miami (MIA), Campinas-Viracopos (VCP), and ending in Santiago (SCL).

As previously announced, Atlas ordered the last four production Boeing 747s to capitalize on strong demand and deliver value to its customers. The aircraft provide 20% more payload capacity. And at the same time 16% less fuel burn than the 747-400F.

CEO’s word

«We are very pleased to expand our strong partnership with Cainiao with the placement of one of our new 747-8Fs. This is the best performing widebody freighter in the industry with a unique front-loading capability,» said John, president, and CEO of Atlas Air Worldwide W. Dietrich.

«Cainiao is a leader in the fast-growing e-commerce logistics market, and we look forward to continuing to support its global network with the superior and reliable service Atlas Air provides. This high-capacity, fuel-efficient aircraft reinforces the commitment to environmental stewardship that Atlas and Cainiao share.» Dietrich concluded.

«Through our successful partnership, Cainiao has been able to offer our customers throughout the Americas faster and greener deliveries provided by Atlas’ global operational capabilities. We are excited to add the new Boeing freighter to our expanding partnership. This comes as a response to the growing demand for e-commerce and greener logistics around the world,» said William Xiong, chief strategist and General Manager of export logistics for Cainiao.

Atlas Air is Chile’s second-largest carrier, in 2021 it had a 19.6% share by carrying 82,575,130 kilograms of cargo, 58.8% higher than before the pandemic. The company has flights to Buenos Aires (EZE) in Argentina; Lima (LIM) in Peru; Campinas-Viracopos (VCP) in Brazil; Anchorage and Miami (MIA) in the United States, and Hong Kong (HKG).
