Qatar Airways and GE Aviation announced a new order for GE9X turbofan engines as part of the global launch order for up to 50 Boeing 777-8 freighters.
The commitment, which includes the engines for 34 firm 777-8 orders and 16 purchase options, also includes GE90s of the current version for the 2 additional Boeing 777 freighter orders.
The total order value with GE exceeds the $6.8 billion list price, including the spare engines, the new order for 2 GE90-115B engines, and a TrueChoice service contract to cover the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) of the engines.

The GE9X is the world’s most powerful and economical engine, and also the largest diameter engine ever manufactured in the history of aeronautics.
The GE9X also offers the lowest NOx emissions in its class and is the quietest GE engine ever produced. Like all GE commercial engines, both the GE9X and GE90 are compatible with any approved sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
Incorporating a suite of new propulsion technologies unique to GE, the GE9X offers up to 10% lower specific fuel consumption compared to the engine it is replacing. It builds on the heritage of the pioneering GE90 engine and offers a combination of power and efficiency unmatched in the cargo aircraft market.
The GE90 engine family is exclusive to Boeing’s 777-300ER, 777-200LR and 777 Freighter aircraft. Since entering service in 1995, the GE90 has accumulated more than 108 million flight hours and is among the most reliable in the industry, with a world-class dispatch reliability rating of 99.98%.
IHI Corporation, Safran Aircraft Engines, Safran Aero Boosters and MTU Aero Engines AG are participating in the GE9X program.
