Frontier will operate flights between Cancun and Houston/Hobby

Frontier Airlines announced a new route connecting Cancun with the Texas city in the framework of the new operations at Chicago-Midway (MDW) and Houston-Hobby (HOU) airports, seeking to complement its presence in two of the largest metropolitan markets in the United States.

Subject to government approval, the ultra-low-cost carrier will begin operating three weekly flights between Houston-Hobby (HOU) and Cancun on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays beginning May 26, 2022.

Flight F9 42 will depart William P. Hobby Airport at 6:25 PM to arrive in Cancun at 8:40 PM. In the opposite direction, flight F9 43 will take off from the Mexican city at 2:10 PM, arriving in Houston at 4:42 PM.

Based on data obtained by Aviacionline through Cirium, Frontier Airlines’ schedule in Cancun during the upcoming northern summer includes more than 90 weekly flights that will connect it with 14 U.S. cities.

  • Atlanta, GA: one daily flight.
  • Baltimore, MD: one flight daily.
  • Cleveland, OH: four weekly flights.
  • Cincinnati, OH: two weekly flights.
  • Denver, CO: 14 weekly flights.
  • Dallas/Fort Worth, TX: one flight daily.
  • Indianapolis, IN: two weekly flights.
  • Orlando, FL: 14 weekly flights.
  • Miami, FL: 14 weekly flights.
  • Chicago O’Hare, IL: one flight daily.
  • Philadelphia, PA: one flight daily.
  • Raleigh/Durham, NC: one flight weekly.
  • St. Louis, MO: one flight daily.
  • Houston/Hobby, TX: three weekly flights.

This will represent an offering of 18,718 seats per week each way between Cancun and the United States from Frontier, which ranks third among the airlines that link the Mexican city with the northern country, representing 12% of the offer, after United with 19% and American with 18%.

As for the Cancun – Houston market, it is currently served by Spirit Airlines, which offers 10 weekly flights; Sun Country with four weekly flights; and United with 51 weekly flights; in all three cases from Houston-Intercontinental (IAH), while Southwest operates 22 weekly flights from Houston-Hobby.
