As previously reported, Peruvian aviation ended 2021 and started 2022 with news regarding airport infrastructure: expansions of Cajamarca, Pucallpa, and Iquitos airports.
Following the improvement plan for airports in the interior of Peru, Aeropuertos del Peru (AdP), the concessionaire company in charge of the design, improvement of infrastructure and service quality, maintenance, operation, and exploitation of the airports located in Anta, Cajamarca, Chachapoyas, Chiclayo, Iquitos, Pisco, Piura, Pucallpa, Talara, Tarapoto, Trujillo, and Tumbes, announced new projects.
On January 7, AdP submitted to the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) and the Supervisory Body for Investment in Public Transportation Infrastructure (OSITRAN) the technical file for the optimization of the electric system and the sanitary block of nine airports of its network of air terminals in the country.
The concessionaire indicated that the works will require an investment of approximately USD 8.8 million and will improve the safety levels of the terminals’ electrical installations.
Through the file, the concessionaire seeks to ensure the continuity of the operations of the airports it manages.
The purpose of this file is to adapt the safety levels of the electrical installations of the aforementioned airports, guaranteeing the compliance of the electrical system with Peruvian laws, as well as the total independence of AdP’s electrical systems from Corporación Peruana de Aeropuertos y Aviación Comercial S.A. (CORPAC), as indicated in the Concession Contract for the air terminals.
The project also aims to ensure adequate compliance with the integrated solid waste management plan, optimizing the infrastructure of the nine airports under AdP’s concession, in accordance with the solid waste management law, minimizing and controlling health and occupational risks, as well as the impact on the environment.
Significantly, these improvements go hand in hand with the growth in the supply of airline tickets in the Peruvian market, as well as the entry of new competitors.
Airlines operating in the country are in constant competition to offer their passengers more modern and efficient aircraft, as well as more destinations and itineraries.
In this regard, airports must be modernized to keep pace with the service offered by the airlines.
