SKY Airline Peru requested flights to Colombia

SKY Airline Peru has filed an application with the Civil Aeronautics of Colombia to operate flights between Lima (LIM) and Bogota (BOG).

The amendment states that its purpose is to provide international scheduled air transport service for passengers, mail, and cargo, with up to 7 weekly frequencies in Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft.

With this application, SKY discloses the next step of its expansion in the international segment. It currently operates from Lima to Santiago de Chile (SCL); Cancun (CUN) in Mexico; Punta Cana (PUJ) in the Dominican Republic and Buenos Aires/Ezeiza (EZE) in Argentina (the last destination inaugurated). Bogota is not a new destination for the company since it operates in Chile.

The low-cost carrier is also planning to fly to Miami (MIA) or Fort Lauderdale (FLL) in the United States, which will be the sixth destination for SKY Peru. By 2022 it expects to double its fleet, obtaining a total of 13 aircraft.

Competition between Peru and Colombia

SKY will have to compete against Avianca, LATAM, VIVA, and Wingo.

The ultra-low-cost VIVA, which flies 14 times a week to Bogota and 7 times a week to Medellin with Airbus A320neo, has 7,896 seats a week and is the leading airline between the two countries.

LATAM currently operates 14 weekly flights with Airbus A319 and A320, offering 4,872 seats per week.

Finally, Wingo operates three times a week with Boeing 737-800, offering availability of 1,116 seats per week.3
