New boost for A380 in North America with new British Airways routes

British Airways will resume more routes with its Airbus A380 fleet by spring and summer 2022, increasing its operation to the most profitable routes in the United States and Canada. During November the British airline had used its superjumbos on intra-European flights to train pilots and cabin crew.

In early December, British Airways relaunched long-haul A380 operations on the following routes: Miami (MIA), Los Angeles, Dubai (DXB), and soon to Singapore (SIN), while a further return to Johannesburg (JNB) is still being considered. The carrier will now add three more destinations in the U.S. and resume operation to Vancouver (YVR) for the 2022 northern summer season schedule.

London Heathrow (LHR) – Washington Dulles (IAD)

Starts March 27, 2022

  • Flight BA293 LHR 17:10 – IAD 20:25 – daily flight.
  • Flight BA292 IAD 22:40 – LHR 10:55+1 – daily flight.

This route served 842,269 passengers in 2019, being Dulles Airport’s main long-haul destination. The company competes with United Airlines and Virgin Atlantic. The last A380 operation on this segment by British Airways was in March 2020.

London Heathrow (LHR) – Chicago O’ Hare (ORD)

Starts June 1, 2022

  • Flight BA295 LHR 10:25 – ORD 13:10 – daily flight.
  • Flight BA294 ORD 17:05 – LHR 06:50+1 – daily flight.

In 2019, 1,250,426 passengers were transported, on this what is also Chicago-O’ Hare Airport’s main long-haul route. British Airways competes against United Airlines and American Airlines. The last A380 operation in this sector was in October 2019.

London Heathrow (LHR) – Boston (BOS)

Starts May 15, 2022

  • Flight BA213 LHR 11:15 – BOS 13:35 – daily flight.
  • Flight BA212 BOS 19:15 – LHR 06:50+1 – daily flight.

In 2019, 970,239 passengers were mobilized between London-Heathrow and Boston. British Airways competes with United Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, and Delta Airlines alongside alliance and codeshare partners American Airlines and codeshare partner Jetblue. The A380 last operated in October 2019.

London Heathrow (LHR) – Vancouver (YVR)

Starts June 1, 2022, through September 25, 2022.

  • Flight BA85 LHR 17:30 – YVR 19:10 – daily flight.
  • Flight BA84 YVR 21:05 – LHR 14:25 – daily flight.

542,568 passengers traveled between London-Heathrow and Vancouver in 2019. London is that Canadian city’s main destination in Europe. British Airways competes with Air Canada. It last operated the A380 on this route in October 2019.

British Airways has also scheduled the Airbus A380 on the following routes:

  • Dallas / Fort Worth (DFW) starts July 1, 2022.
  • San Francisco (SFO) starts May 1, 2022.

British Airways Airbus A380s are configured with 14 seats in First Class, 97 in business class, 55 in premium economy, and 303 in economy class. These aircraft do not have the airline’s new cabin products. The British airline is currently the only European operator of the superjumbo.
