In line with the airline industry’s focus on joining efforts to combat climate change, Delta Air Lines announced today that in 2022 it will create the position of Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO), which will be held by Pamela Fletcher (as Senior Vice President) effective February 1, who has more than two decades of experience leading teams in mobility-related companies.
Fletcher will join Delta’s leadership committee, becoming the only airline to bring the position of Chief Sustainability Officer to that executive level.
The airline’s CEO Ed Bastian stated in a memo sent to Delta employees worldwide, «As we move into the next phase of recovery, we will evolve our sustainability efforts and expand our industry leadership position on our path to net-zero.»
«The addition of a leader of Pam’s caliber will give Delta the dedicated focus and ambition to lead the industry toward a sustainable future. Her experience and credibility will broaden our ability to both forge innovative partnerships, develop cutting-edge clean fuels and technologies, and smartly invest to reduce carbon emissions and waste in the years ahead. We are thrilled that he will bring her deep experience, skills, and vision to Delta as we map out our sustainable future together,» Bastian continued.
He also announced the promotion of Amelia DeLuca to Vice President of Sustainability, now reporting to Pamela Fletcher, noting that her work has placed Delta among the leaders in the industry and that «the numerous accomplishments of the sustainability team include securing vital sustainable jet fuel agreements to help grow the market, committing to science-based emissions goals, building impactful industry-wide partnerships and setting the standard for transparency.»
Prior to joining Delta, Pamela Fletcher worked for General Motors as Global Vice President of Innovation. She is a graduate of Kettering University in Flint and Wayne State University in Detroit, where she earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in engineering.
