The Special Administrative Unit of the Civil Aeronautics of Colombia received on December 13 a request from Avianca Costa Rica, a subsidiary of the Holding Company, to operate two routes to Colombia from San José.
The required routes, which would operate with a frequency of 7 weekly flights, are San José – Medellín, and San José – Cartagena, which would operate with A319, A320, and A320Neo aircraft.
Avianca recently submitted its flight plan for the next two years, in which it mentioned its plan to operate more than 200 routes on a fleet of optimized aircraft divided into three classes: Economy, Plus, and Premium.
In addition, the arrival of new routes to cities other than Bogota is due to the persistent operational limitations of El Dorado International Airport, due to the high flow of state and non-scheduled flights, as well as infrastructure limitations.
