Brazil: domestic flight demand continued to grow in October

The Brazilian airline industry has been recording consecutive increases in passenger demand in recent months and October was no exception. Data published by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) last Monday, November 22, show not only the overall demand increased but also the search for domestic destinations.

According to ANAC Brazil and through data provided by our partner Aeroin, 6.3 million people traveled through the country last month, an increase of 7% compared to September. The aircraft occupancy rate was 84.3%, an increase of 3.2 percentage points.

“Domestic tourism is the big highlight of this recovery. Brazilians are finally giving their country all the value it deserves and taking advantage of all it has to offer,” highlighted the Minister of Tourism, Gilson Machado Neto.

“Moreover, the deficit between 2019 and current levels is decreasing by the day. The growing passenger demand indexes registered by the air sector show that we are getting closer and closer to recovering the power of our sector,” Machado added.

Among the 2.48 million people who transited through the Guarulhos airport in São Paulo during October, 2.07 million had Brazilian cities as their origin or destination, that is, 83% of the total movement. This represents a growth of 37.1% compared to the same month last year.

In October, Viracopos Airport, in Campinas (SP), reported the highest monthly passenger index of 2021, with 960,218 departures and arrivals. The number represents an increase of 36.88% in total passengers in relation to the same month but in 2020.  This is the eighth consecutive month of increases over the same period last year.
