The Colombian low-cost carrier Viva Air will offer 64% more flights by the end of the year compared to the same period in 2019 and put two million seats on sale from November to January 2022.
By the end of 2021, the number of flights will increase on routes outside the country such as Medellín – Miami, which will have 14 weekly frequencies, Medellín – Lima and Medellín – Mexico City with one daily flight; Medellín – Cancun with five weekly flights and Medellín – Orlando with three flights a week.
In addition to the mentioned, the Argentine government recently authorized Viva Air to fly between Medellín – Buenos Aires and Medellín – Córdoba.
Regarding the domestic operation, Viva has 32 national routes to beach destinations in the country such as San Andrés, Cartagena, Barranquilla and Santa Marta; which are important for the tourism reactivation and economic development in Colombia.
According to reportur, with the increase in frequencies in the year-end season to national and international destinations, Viva plans to close this 2021 with six million passengers mobilized.
In addition, Viva Air projects the opening of 15 new international routes for the next three years with its new fleet of aircraft to destinations in North, South America and the Caribbean, including New York.
It is important to remember that Viva Air reactivated 100% of its operation in the first half of 2021, transporting more than 3.9 million passengers so far this year, with more than 28 thousand flights carried out.
The new Avianca, also on a positive path
The new “Avianca low-cost” seems to show that its new low-cost model is working in the Colombian aviation market.
In terms of passengers transported, Avianca presented a positive balance, by mobilizing 409,271 passengers on 3,051 domestic and international flights from Colombia.
At the same time last year, the company carried 115,000 passengers on 1,190 flights, which means an increase of 156% in the operation, which today has 40 active routes in Colombia.
According to a press release, the preferred destinations for Colombians are Bogotá, Medellín, Cartagena, Cali; and on international routes, Miami, New York and Mexico City.
On the other hand, Avianca will be using its 13 Boeing 787-8, which is its only type of wide-body aircraft, for long-haul flights within America and Europe.
According to reportur, the Colombian carrier will be keeping the executive cabin seats for the return of the business segment.
Avianca has 13 aircraft of this model in its fleet. This aircraft has capacity for 252 passengers, 30 seats for business class and 222 for economy class.
