Colombia: Easyfly increases operations in Monteria and aims to grow its staff

The company will offer more connection options between the two airports serving the city of Medellín and Montería, in addition to relaunching high season flights in Cartagena. As part of the post-pandemic recovery, it will seek to incorporate new workers.

The Colombian regional airline Easyfly announced an increase in frequencies connecting Los Garzones International Airport in Montería, capital of the department of Córdoba with the two airports serving the city of Medellín: José María Córdova International and Olaya Herrera.

Currently, the company offers three daily flights between the two cities, all from Olaya Herrera Airport. However as of October 15, the daily frequencies will increase to five, one of which will be operated to and from José María Córdova International Airport, located in Rionegro.

As the company informed in a press release, with this offer, Easyfly will become the only airline operating to/from Montería/Meldellin airports. In addition, they highlighted that the increase in the offer «will allow the company’s users to fly during the day to and from Olaya Herrera airport, located in the heart of Medellin. Otherwise, passengers that can’t make this flight, can go for the night services to Rionegro and spend the night in Monteria. This will allow the people of Cordoba, for the first time, to have a Monteria-Medellin flight leaving at 5:35 am».

Easyfly’s president Alfonso Ávila, in communication with the portal El Universal, assured that the company plans to fly between Medellín and Santa Cruz de Mompós and that they are waiting for the approval of Aerocivil. He also stated that between December 2021 and January 2022 they plan to resume the summer flights in order to connect the city of Cartagena with Cúcuta and Manizales.

The company will incorporate personnel to meet the growing demand after the easing of restrictions generated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Easyfly’s expansion plans and projects will require the hiring of 150 new workers to counteract the loss of jobs caused by the fall of the sector.

For Avila, the outlook is encouraging. He pointed out that «this year we have had a 76% growth in passenger traffic between January and July, the company has already returned to the break-even point and we are generating profits and this will allow us to meet the obligations we have with our creditors».

Easyfly operates a fleet of ATR 42-600 and ATR 72-600 aircraft and aims to be the leading regional airline in Colombia by 2024. It plans to transport 4.5 million passengers, connecting 42 cities with a network of 78 routes.
