Ceriani tendered his resignation as president of Aerolíneas Argentinas

Following the tough electoral defeat suffered by the government of Alberto Fernández last Sunday during the Primary Elections to determine the candidates for the mid-term legislative elections in November,  different sources said that a number of high-ranking officials have tendered their resignations to the President. Among them is Pablo Ceriani, president of state-owned Aerolíneas Argentinas.

The thread that links all the resignations, which by the way, are not “indeclinable”, is their belonging to the political group La Cámpora or their alignment under the wing of the Vice-President of the Nation, Cristina Fernández, main pillar of the government coalition.

“After last Sunday’s election results, I consider that this is the best way to contribute to the demands that the time determines”, concludes the letter of the president of Aerolíneas Argentinas, which was published by local media.

It remains to be seen whether Alberto Fernández will accept the resignation of Ceriani and the rest of the officials or whether it is just a gesture to force him to deploy more concrete actions on the part of more extreme sectors.

Just around midday this Wednesday, Pablo Ceriani had tweeted about the new flight between Mendoza and Santiago de Chile of Aerolíneas Argentinas, the first international route from the interior of the country since the beginning of the pandemic. When asked about Ceriani’s situation, the company did not respond to Aviacionline’s queries.

Subsequently, it was learnt that the vice-president of the Regulatory Body of the National Airport System, Fernando Muriel, also tendered his resignation. In practice, he functions as the real head of ORSNA (Argentina’s national airport authority)
