JetSMART postpones start of flights to Medellin

-

As we announced last March, JetSMART was scheduled to begin flights to Medellin on July 7. The airline planned to operate twice weekly flights to and from the Chilean capital on Airbus A320s, configured with 186 seats in a single class.

With the announcement of JetSMART’s arrival in Medellin, the low cost airline reached four routes between Chile and Colombia, being the company with the largest offer between both countries.

In the case of JetSMART, in addition to having flights to and from Santiago de Chile, the airline currently operates between Antofagasta and Cali, with a weekly frequency. Prior to the pandemic, Bogota had a connection with Antofagasta, but it is currently suspended.

As a consequence of COVID-19, the restrictions and their impact on demand, JetSMART is postponing the start of operations between Santiago de Chile and Medellin. According to the current schedule, the low cost carrier plans to begin flights to the Colombian city on September 1st.

According to close sources consulted by Aviacionline, this is still subject to the evolution of the restrictions and the uncertainty they generate in demand.

For now, JetSMART will have two weekly operations between the cities of Chile and Colombia.
