GOL will once again operate flights to Mexico and the Dominican Republic

-

GOL Linhas Aéreas will once again have international flights, with Mexico and the Dominican Republic being the initial countries.

The Brazilian company has been postponing the restart of operations to international markets as a result of the harsh restrictions imposed by other countries on travelers from Brazil (more than 120 nations have some limitations).

With the advancement of the vaccination program throughout Brazil, GOL believes that passengers already feel safer to travel and circulate in other countries.

According to our Brazilian partner, AEROIN, Gol confirmed Cancun (CUN), in Mexico, and Punta Cana (PUJ), in the Dominican Republic, as its first international post-pandemic destinations, which will begin to be flown from November 12 and 13, respectively.

The flights will be operated with Boeing 737-8 aircraft with capacity for 186 passengers, with 1,116 seats per week in the Dominican Republic and 1,488 in Mexico.

In both Brasilia and Guarulhos, flight schedules were planned to allow fast connections from all over the country to the Caribbean, reducing total travel time.

“GOL has gained tradition in flights to the Caribbean: it has been operating in Punta Cana since 2009, that is, it has been in business for 12 years. For this and other destinations abroad, we are committed to promoting a conscious return. Depending on the evolution of vaccination and the pandemic, we are going to bet more and more on the international expansion of the company,” says Randall Sáenz Agüero, Director of Alliances, International and Distribution of GOL.

As we mentioned earlier, the situation in third countries with Brazil is too restrictive given its epidemiological situation, especially because it has one of the variants of COVID-19.

Therefore, the position of each country prevents the entry of Brazilian citizens, as well as the prohibition of any type of operations with Brazil. It is noteworthy that GOL decides to return to operating international flights, since Mexico and the Dominican Republic are one of the few nations that do not have strict entry restrictions.

Each country has several variables that justify the non-return of its international operations, being:

  • Argentina: it is the main market for Brazil in the region, as well as for GOL Linhas Aéreas. It is the most restrictive nation, where there are income quotas and the ban on flights between the two countries. Although the airline believes that in November they will be able to return, it will depend on the Argentine government that this happens.
  • Chile: it has a partial closure of the borders, where they can only leave for a justified need of the country and not for tourism, as well as the prohibition of entry of foreigners to its territory.
  • Bolivia and Ecuador: they have restrictions with Brazil. In Bolivia they must carry out a quarantine of up to 10 days.
  • Perú: prohibits any commercial flight between the two countries.
  • Surinam: it has a total closure of borders.
  • Uruguay: Uruguayans and foreign residents can leave for tourism, but foreigners cannot enter.
